Shawnak Sivakumar, student of Grand Master Priyadharshan Kannappan in the academy, won the Silver medal in the U-14 category of North American Youth Chess Championships 2021, held in Chicago, USA, from August 16-21, 2021.
Starting as the 13th seed, Shawnak scored 6.5 points out of 9 rounds and finished 2nd in the final standings.
Shawnak gained 42 FIDE rating points, and also he will be awarded the Candidate Master(CM) title for finishing 2nd in the U-14 age category.
There was also a separate blitz tournament for the U-14 category, where Shawnak won the bronze medal with a score of 7.5/10. The blitz tournament was held before the start of the regular event, and you can find the final standings here.
