Chronicles of Chess Champions Feb 1-16, 2024

Chess Gaja students showed excellence and showcased their talents in multiple events held in the United States this fortnight (1st to 16th February 2024). We have segmented our student performances by state in this blog!

VERMONT CHESS TOURNAMENTS

Vivek won the U1500 section of the 3RD UVM SPRING OPEN conducted by the Northern New England Chess Association on February 4, 2024. Vivek scored a perfect 4 out of 4 and won his section by a 1-point margin. This dominating performance by Vivek helped him gain 106 rating points and improve his USCF rating from 1345 to 1451.

TEXAS CHESS TOURNAMENTS

Texas Chess Center Tournaments

PLANO SWISS 020324

The Plano Swiss event, which took place on February 3, 2024, in Plano, Texas. We had multiple Chess Gaja students take part in the open section of this tournament. 

Sanjay scored 2.5/4, finished 5th on the rankings and basically maintained his rating of 1742 due to this result.

Rishi, one of our new students in the academy, also scored 2/4 and gained 6 rating points for his performance, pushing his rating from 1670 to 1676.

Akshay also had a modest rating gain from 1503 to 1510 by scoring 2/4 in the tournament. 

PLANO SWISS 021024

There was another weekly chess event by Texas Chess Center in Plano, TX which took place on February 10, 2024.

Neil scored 3 points out of 4 games in the tournament and his only loss was against the eventual winner of the tournament, Rachael Li. He gained 1 rating point for this performance and ended up with the rating of 1974.

Sanjay also scored 3 points out of 4 games, including an upset win against Likhit (USCF rated 1922). This powerful performance helped Sanjay gain 30 rating points to end the event with an USCF rating of 1772.

Akshay also had an equally impressive performance as he also scored 3 points out of 4 games, including beating the higher rated Sreedev (USCF rating 1550). This convincing performance ensured Akshay gained 40 rating points, pushing his USCF rating to 1550.

SUNDAY SWISS 02112024

Shricharan had a terrific performance as he scored 3 out of 4 points in the tournament held in Carrollton, TX on Feb 11, 2024.

Shricharan scored 2 wins and 2 draws, including big 500 point upset draws against Brian (USCF rated 1945) and Roman (USCF rated 1925). Such an amazing performance by Shricharan also helped him to gain 116 rating points, pushing his rating from 1404 to 1520.

Shricharan has been in terrific form of late, as he has gained 220 rating points in the last 7 months in Texas Chess Tournaments, and we congratulate him for his continued powerful performances! Wishing him the best in all the upcoming tournaments.

Farmers Branch Chess Club Tournament

Arjun scored a perfect 100% of 3/3 and won the championship section in the tournament conducted by the Farmers Branch Chess Club Tournament in Irving, TX, held on Feb 4, 2024.

The performance also helped Arjun increase his USCF rating from 1719 to 1740.

Coppell Chess Club Tournament

Advaith scored 50%, scoring 2 points out of 4 games in the Coppell Chess Club Swiss Feb 10 that was held on Feb 10, 2024 in Coppell, TX. Advaith had 2 wins and 2 losses in this tournament.

Tarrant County Chess Club Tournament

Skanda took part in the 2024 Region II Championships held in Evans, TX, on Feb 3, 2024. It was a 6-round tournament organized by the Tarrant County Chess Club, and Skanda scored 3 points in the over-900-rated over 900 section of the tournament. The performance basically maintained his rating, as he started the event with an USCF rating of 941 and finished with a 940.

ILLINOIS CHESS TOURNAMENTS

The 2024 GREATER CHICAGO CHAMPIONSHIP was conducted by the Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation on February 3, 2024, in Chicago. This was a massive event, with more than 700 players taking part and school grade sections divided the tournament sections.

In the High School K-12 Championship section, Abir took part, scored 1.5 points out of 4 games, gained 3 rating points for his performance and ended the event with a USCF rating of 1187.

NEBRASKA CHESS TOURNAMENTS

Gurugrahan took part in the 2024 Nebraska Class Chess Championship held at Omaha, Nebraska on February 03, 2024. Gurugrahan took part in the 1600-1799 section and scored 2 points out of 3 games, and gained 6 rating points, pushing his rating from 1654 to 1660. 

OREGON CHESS TOURNAMENTS

Prahladha took part in the ROSHEN’S CHESS ACADEMY Tournament (Feb 10 A-D) held on February 10, 2024, in Portland, Oregon. The tournament had multiple sections and Prahladha took part in Section B and scored 2 points from 4 games in the tournament.

CALIFORNIA CHESS TOURNAMENTS

San Diego Chess Club Tournaments

GAMBITO -1043

Ruhan took part in this 4 round tournament conducted by the San Diego Chess Club on February 03, 2024. Ruhan took part in the Open section and scored 3 points out of 4 games by winning 2 and drawing 2 games. This solid performance helped Ruhan gain 9 rating points to push his USCF rating from 1942 to 1951.

GAMBITO -1044

Ruhan scored 2 out of 4 points in the Open section of this tournament that was held on February 10, 2024. As his losses and draws came against lower rated opponents, Ruhan lost some rating points to finish the tournament with a USCF rating of 1928.

ALINA MARKOWSKI OPEN 2024

Ruhan scored 5 points out of 7 games in this tournament that was run over a month, as it started on January 3, 2024 and ended on February 14, 2024. The performance was a solid one by Ruhan and he finished the event with a USCF rating of 1924.

INDIANA CHESS TOURNAMENTS

Sathvik participated in the reserve section of the 2024 Southern India Open/Reserve conducted by Indiana State Chess Association on February 10, 2024. Sathvik scored 2 points out of 4 games in the tournament and as his losses came against lower rated opponents, he lost some rating points to finish the tournament with a USCF rating of 1632.
