Chess Gaja Students Shine at the 89th Annual Southwest Open Tournament in Texas

The Texas Chess Center sponsored with F and B trophies conducted the 89th Annual Southwest Open Tournament in Houston Texas from September 1st to 4th 2023.

Our Chess Gaja students Neil, Arjun, Vaseegaren, Zephan, Arush, Anish, and Shriyan participated in the open section, and Mihika under the reserve section showcased their talents.

Neil scored 3.5 points out of 7. His impressive performance was the draw against three highly-rated players Benjamin (2012), Lucius (2171), and Priya (2017). This remarkable performance resulted in an increase in Neil’s rating from 1861 to 1875.

Anish scored 3 points out of 7. His noteworthy performance includes a victory over a highly rated player Evan 1915 and drew his games against Vinh (1933), and Roman (1875) by this excellent performance he increased his rating from 1775 to 1791.

Shriyan demonstrated exceptional play skills by scoring 3 points out of 7, increasing his rating from 1747 to 1805 which is around 58 Elo points. His victories came against three strong-rated opponents Abraham (1818), Joshua (2038), and Lohit (2082).

Arush scored 3 points out of 7. Whereas Arjun scored 1.5 points out of 7

Vaseegaran and Zephan scored 1 points each out of 7.

Mihika participated in the reserve section and scored 4 out of 7.
