Drastic upsets in the points table! Day #6

The 6th round is also over, and there have been some major upsets in the points table.

India loses the top spot

India 2 lost their first match today against Armenia with a score of 1.5-2.5, with one victory, one draw and two losses. This is the first match where India 2 did not win. However, the loss of India 2 displaced it from the top position on the points table to the 3rd spot. On the other hand, India 1 drew their match with Uzbekistan 2-2 with two draws and one victory on both sides. The team slipped a few spots to the 6th position.

US continues its winning spree

The top-seeded US team climbed to the 2nd position right behind Armenia, with five match victories and just one draw. This comes after the team won 2.5-1.5 against Iran today in Round 6. The US team has made a striking comeback in the tournament with their stellar performance. This proves the mettle that the best team in the world holds.

Brazil continues on the winning way

The Brazilian team, under the guidance of Chess Gaja founder GrandMaster Priyadharshan Kannapan, defeated the Colombian team 2.5-1.5 today. This victory marks second one in a row for the team. Thus, the team indeed is back to winning ways.

India holds its dominance over the Women’s category

India defeated 3rd seeded Georgia 3-1 in Round 6 to hold the 1st position on the points table. With two victories and two draws, the Indian team remains the only team in the Women’s category to have won all 6 of their matches. Azerbaijan and Romania trail close behind with five victories and one draw each. India 2 drew their game 2-2 against Czech Republic, slipping to the 15th position.

The results of day 6 were shocking indeed, as Armenia toppled India, US leaped ahead of the hosts, and India rolled over Georgia in the Women’s category. Stay tuned on Chess Gaja for further updates and recaps of the tournament.
