India confirms a podium finish? #Day 10

The 10th round of the 44th Chess Olympiad concluded yesterday. The round had several surprises along with a few interesting matches. Here is the recap of the round.

India set to win a medal

India 2 drew their match against Uzbekistan 2-2, with two draws, one victory and one loss. This pushed Uzbekistan to the 1st rank, and India 2 to the third. India 1 won against Iran 2.5-1.5 to claim the 4th rank behind India 2. Armenia won against Azerbaijan 3-1 to claim the 2nd spot. With just one round left, the two Indian teams places on 3rd and 4th rank are almost certain to bag at least one medal, if not the Gold.

US remains in contention

The US team beat Turkey 3-1 to claim the 5th rank immediately after the two Indian teams. With this resounding victory, the US team has put themselves in contention for the medal, with the last round fast approaching.

India set to bag the Gold in Women’s Category?

India 1 defeated Kazakhstan 3.5-0.5 in round 10 to re-claim the 1st spot from Poland. Poland drew their match against Georgia to claim the 2nd spot. Currently, Indian team has a lead of one match over the 2nd placed Poland. Thus, if India wins the final round today, they bag the Gold irrespective of other results.

The 44th Chess Olympiad is closing to an end, with just one round remaining. Who can make the final push and grab the Gold? Who can barely make it to the podium with a Bronze? What will happen in the final round? Stay tuned on Chess Gaja to find out.
