The Greater Cleveland Chess Club held its GCC inaugural tournament in partnership with NEOCC on December 30, 2022, in Brecksville, Ohio.
Varun, a chess student from Chess Gaja, took part in the 6-player Section B and emerged as the tournament winner with a score of 2.5 out of 3 points. In this tournament, he secured a win against the higher-rated player Arjun (rated at 2005) and drew against another higher-rated player, Kevin (rated at 1909). This impressive performance earned Varun a rating point increase, from 1937 to 1965.
