T)e chess enthusiasts from Chess Gaja recently demonstrated their remarkable skills and talents in various events held across the United States from December 28 to January 3, 2024. The outcomes of these competitions are detailed below.

33rd Annual North American Open

The Continental Chess Association hosted the 33rd Annual North American Open from December 26-30, 2023, in Las Vegas. Neil, a Chess Gaja student, delivered an impressive performance, showcasing notable progress by scoring 5 out of 7 rounds. Particularly noteworthy was his victory against higher-rated opponents Cohen (2000) and Aradh (1969), resulting in an increase in his rating from 1900 to 1961 USCF in the 2100 Section. Other students, Vikash and Arjun, also demonstrated their progress. Vikash scored 4.5 out of 7 rounds, elevating his rating from 1626 to 1756 USCF, and secured wins against higher-rated opponents Wilfredo (1838), Aaron (1908), Severo (1784), and Scott (1800). Arjun achieved a similar score of 4.5 out of 7 rounds, elevating his rating from 1730 to 1747 USCF. Vaseegaran made his progress by scoring 4 out of 9  rounds and his rating increased from 2268 to 2271 USCF in the open section.

2023 DuPage County Chess Championship

In Lisle on December 30, 2023, the Elite Chess organized the 2023 DuPage County Chess Championship event. Abir, another talented Chess Gaja student, exhibited significant improvement by scoring 2 out of 4 rounds. Furthermore, he increased his rating by 2 points, moving from 1159 to 1161 USCF. Notably, he secured a victory against the higher-rated Benjamin (1329).

Holiday Open 2023

In Oklahoma on December 30, 2023, the Oklahoma City Chess Club organized the Holiday Open 2023 event. Aayush, another talented Chess Gaja student, demonstrated considerable improvement by scoring 2 out of 4 rounds. Moreover, he boosted his rating by 31 points, moving from 1410 to 1441 USCF. Aayush achieved a notable win against the higher-rated Jaime (1660).

Cross Border Regional Chess Championship 2023

Eugene, another talented Chess Gaja student, demonstrated considerable improvement in the Cross Border Regional Chess Championship 2023. He scored 2 out of 5 points and this performance increased his rating from 1299 to 1331 FIDE.
