The Tech Mahindra Global Chess League (GCL) 2024 is gearing up to take the chess world by storm with its unique and exciting team format. Set to be the grandest global chess event, GCL 2024 brings together the best players from across the world, transcending national boundaries and sparking a new era in professional chess. Tech Mahindra, in collaboration with FIDE has created this groundbreaking event to push the limits of chess as both a professional sport and an engaging spectacle.

The 10-day, one-of-a-kind chess league featuring top players will take place at Friends House, located in the heart of central London, from October 3rd to 12th, 2024.

Last Year’s Highlights

The previous GCL season was a memorable one, filled with dramatic matches and unexpected upsets.  Triveni Continental Kings led by by GM Levon Aronian emerged as the champions, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and strategic prowess.

Teams

Alpine SG Pipers

The team members are Magnus Carlsen, Praggnanandhaa, Richard Rapport, Hou Yifan, Kateryna Lagno, and Daniel Dardha. The team is captained by GM Pravin Thipsay.

Mumbai Masters

The Mumba Masters team members are Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (MVL), Alexander Grischuk, Vidit Gujrathi, Koneru Humpy, D. Harika, and Raunak Sadhwani. The team is captained by Alexander Grischuk.

American Gambits

The American Gambits team members are Hikaru Nakamura, Vladislav Artemiev, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Bibisara Assaubayeva, Elisabeth Paehtz, and Jonas Buhl Bjerre. The team is captained by Hikaru Nakamura.

Triveni Continental Kings

The Triveni Continental Kings team members include Ian Nepomniachtchi, Wei Yi, Teimour Radjabov, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Valentina Gunina, and Javokhir Sindarov. The team is captained by GM Loek van Wely.

PBG Alaskan Knights

The PBG Alaskan Knights team members are Anish Giri, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Tan Zhongyi, Alina Kashlinskaya, and Nihal Sarin. The team is captained by Abhijit Kunte.

Ganges Grandmasters

The Ganges Grandmasters team members are Viswanathan Anand, Arjun Erigaisi, Parham Maghsoodloo, R. Vaishali, Nurgyul Salimova, and Volodar Murzin. The team is captained by Viswanathan Anand.

Format

The league will feature both male and female chess champions competing together on the same team. Played in the popular Rapid format, these joint teams are unique in the world of professional sports for their mixed-gender composition. Additionally, the league stands out as a one-of-a-kind live televised chess event, offering fans a distinctive and engaging viewing experience that blends the excitement of fast-paced chess with cutting-edge production.

Regulations
