Chess Gaja students competed across the United States from August 13 to 17, 2025, taking part in major tournaments in California, Texas, and Maryland. Let’s celebrate their achievements!
California
- Vian played in the Gambito -1103 held in San Diego, CA on August 16, scoring 2/4 and boosting his rating from 1756 to 1766.
- Ayaan competed in the 2nd Koltanowski Memorial Tournament hosted by the Mechanics’ Institute in San Francisco, CA on August 17, scoring 1.5/4 and climbing from 1596 to 1608.
Both students showed determination, taking on tough competition and making steady rating progress.
Texas
Texas tournaments were buzzing with Chess Gaja talent this week:
- Sanjay played in the 2025 Austin Summer Open on August 17, finishing with 2.5/5 and raising his rating from 2019 to 2034.
- Akshay also competed in the same event, scoring 3/5 and moving from 1773 to 1786.
- Sreevarshan had a double weekend, playing in both the Plano Swiss (August 16) and the Frisco Swiss (August 17). He scored 2.5/4 in each tournament, gaining an impressive +44 points in the first event (1632 → 1675) and another +4 points in the second (1675 → 1679).
- Roy participated in the Plano Swiss on August 16, scoring 2/4 and earning a big +92 rating point jump, moving from 1447 to 1539—one of the biggest gains of the week.
Maryland
Roshan competed in the 12th Annual Washington International held in Rockville, MD from August 13, scoring a strong 6.5/9. His outstanding play earned him a +114 rating point gain, climbing from 1537 to 1651—a phenomenal performance!
