GM Priyadharshan Honored on International Chess Day

A man in a suit smiles in front of a certificate with the text “Recognized for Building Young Minds. A proud moment for Chess Gaja” displayed beside him.

At Chess Gaja, we’re proud to share a special milestone in our journey.

On International Chess Day, Grandmaster Priyadharshan Kannappan, Founder of Chess Gaja, received a Letter of Appreciation from Shri Vinod Tawde, Member of Rajya Sabha and National General Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), recognising his contribution to chess education, the development of young minds, and his efforts in promoting India’s rich chess heritage.

This recognition reflects not only GM Priyadharshan’s dedication to the game but also the collective efforts of the entire Chess Gaja community in making quality chess education accessible to students across the world.

A formal letter from the BJP National General Secretary congratulating Priyadharshan Kannappan on International Chess Day and highlighting India's chess legacy.

Recognising the Power of Chess Education

In his letter, Shri Vinod Tawde highlighted the significance of International Chess Day, describing chess as a game that develops discipline, brilliance, strategic thinking, and mental agility.

He also referred to chess as an important part of India’s heritage, tracing its origins to Chaturanga, and praised India’s remarkable rise on the global chess stage through legends like Viswanathan Anand and the country’s new generation of Grandmasters.

The letter further acknowledged the vital role played by coaches in nurturing young minds—not just by teaching moves on the board, but by helping students develop foresight, resilience, patience, and decision-making skills that benefit them throughout life.

A Shared Achievement for the Chess Gaja Community

Although the appreciation was addressed to GM Priyadharshan, we believe this recognition belongs to everyone who has been part of the Chess Gaja journey.

Every student who embraces the learning process.
Every parent who supports consistent practice.
Every coach who works tirelessly behind the scenes.

Together, we have built a learning environment focused on long-term improvement rather than short-term results.

Today, Chess Gaja proudly trains 5,000+ students across more than 50 countries, providing structured online chess coaching through experienced coaches, modern learning technology, and personalised guidance.

Recognition like this inspires us to continue raising the standard of chess education.

Whether a student is learning the basics, preparing for FIDE tournaments, or aiming to become a titled player, our mission remains unchanged to provide structured, high-quality chess coaching that helps students grow both on and off the chessboard.
