The 2nd Annual Texas Golden Open, organized by Blakeman Chess, took place from June 17-19, 2022, in Coppell, Texas. This prestigious tournament brought together chess enthusiasts from across the region, providing an excellent platform for young talents to showcase their skills.
Chess Gaja students Neil, Arjun, and Gurugrahan participated in this competitive tournament, demonstrating remarkable dedication and strategic prowess throughout the event.
U1200 Category – Gurugrahan’s Outstanding Performance
In the Under U1200 category, Gurugrahan delivered an impressive performance, scoring 5 out of 7 points. His results included three wins, one loss, and two draws. Notably, he secured a significant victory against high-rated player Manu (1333), showcasing his tactical abilities. As a result of this strong performance, his rating increased from 1151 to 1186, marking a gain of 35 rating points.
U1900 Category – Neil and Arjun’s Journey
In the Under U1900 category, both Neil and Arjun competed with determination. Arjun scored four out of seven points, achieving three wins, two losses, and two draws. Meanwhile, Neil finished in an impressive 5th place with 5 out of 7 points, recording 4 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws.
Furthermore, Neil demonstrated his competitive spirit by defeating high-rated player Ojar (1709). Consequently, his rating increased from 1695 to 1706, reflecting his continued growth as a chess player.
