As the world of chess is returning to normalcy and over-the-board tournaments resuming at various places, the Houston Summer Chess Championship 2021 took place at Westin Galleria on 21st and 22nd August. This prestigious event saw five of our academy students fight it out on the board against a strong field of players.
Among the five students, Vijay performed extremely well to score 3.5 points out of 5, which consisted of 3 wins, 1 draw and just 1 loss and finished 5th place in the Amateur category. This stellar performance helped him gain 55 rating points, and in the process, he also crossed the 1700 rating mark.
Priyansh and Nimesh had a decent run in the Amateur section scoring 2.5 out of 5 and 2 out of 5, to finish at 13th and 19th position on the ranking table, respectively.
In the Reserve section, Anish and Mihika both scored a respectable 2.5 out of 5 points to finish at 26th and 32nd spot on the ranking table, respectively. It must be noted that Mihika also gained a whopping 83 rating points in this event.
We congratulate all the Chess Gaja players for their performance and wish them luck for future tournaments.
